21st Birthday

For my 21st birthday we went to Des Moines, IA. Our friends Matt and Jill were going there already because Matt had a class for work and they were celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary. We decided, to save money, we could tag along and celebrate both in one fun weekend. We also invited our friends Jason and Dawn along.

We left around 2 on friday to make it in time for Matt's class. Everything was going smoothly and our GPS was telling us we were going to get there on time. We stopped at a Taco Johns to get some food, but when we came back out to leave, the doors were locked and the keys were sitting in the middle of the front seats.

Brenton went back inside to ask for a coat hanger and with that we started trying to get the car unlocked. Brenton got on the phone with our road side assistance and both he and I prayed about the situation.

After 15 minutes of us trying to get the car open with a coat hanger, a guy pulls up in a pick up truck and says "hey, 20 bucks and I'll get you into that car." Heck yes was our response!

We giggled about that situation for the rest of the weekend and how God has got our back. Praise Jesus!

20 minutes behind schedule we got back on the road. Once we got close to Des Moines it became time to find the university that Matt had his classes at. We found a campus, but the wrong one. Unfortunately there was a west campus and we needed to be at the main one. We turned around, even more behind schedule, and came up to a traffic jam. The police were not there yet so people were just driving around the incident. We could not see what had happened but when we got close we saw that people were swerving around bricks. Someone had dropped bricks on the highway! God, once again, had our back because honestly, we probably would have been in that spot if we hadn't taken our "accidental" detour!

Finally, we got Matt to his class and Brenton, Jill, and I went to find the hotel. We took naps and waited for Matt to get done and then at 10:30 we went to see Snow White and the Huntsman. It was a really good movie, but it was kind of dark.

Saturday was my birthday and it was filled with shopping! :)

Our first stop was a cool coffee shop we found online. The first floor was a coffee shop and the next 3 levels were old furniture, pieces of old houses, and antiques. This is were Jill bought me my birthday present - she bought me (and herself) an old white, chipped paint, window! I haven't figured out where to put it yet, but I'm very excited about it! TJ Maxx and Kirkland's were our other 2 stops.

Once Jason and Dawn got there, we got ready to head to dinner. We went to a restaurant called Bang Bang. It was a lot like Hu Hut and very delicious.

Our next and final stop was a piano bar. It was fun, but not what you think of when you think of a piano bar!

It was so awesome spending quality time with our good friends! Many good conversations and a ton of laughter. Thanks again Matt & Jill, Jason & Dawn, and specifically Brenton for helping to make my birthday weekend so memorable! :) Love you all!
